Mittens for a baby cousin

January 15, 2010

Another Christmas present – cousin P’s little bother needed something, too. He got a baby surprise jacket with matching hat as well as the cousin magic slippers when he was born just a few months ago, so he wasn’t in line for a sweater – but how about little mittens? Small babies always sleep with their hands above their heads, and when they sleep outside (Scandinavians are big on letting babies nap outside) those little hands get cold easily. I knitted these in leftover (from a huge skein – I have a lot left over) 2-ply Askeladen merino and then I picked up stitches along the cast-on edge and knitted another mitten for a soft lining. This time I used another Askeladen yarn – the same weight in a silk/merino blend. I hope they fit – I haven’t asked yet. They looked cute, at least!

Yarn: Askeladen 2-ply merino and Askeladen 2-ply silk/merino blend (in very small amounts)
Needles: 2.5 mm
Pattern: A mix between my own and the mitten pattern from Strikk til nøstebarn
